David Rees: Into The Metaverse
Into the what?
‘David Rees Into The Metaverse’ is a collection of NFTs combining original oil paintings with generative coding, creating a series of unique but authentic digital artworks. The collection will be released over ten phases with each phase containing ten subjects and two hundred NFTs. If you collect two NFTs you can trade these in to be destroyed and in return you will receive a brand new NFT combining elements from both. This will be utterly unique and will form a new collection known as The Morpheus Collection.
What makes them unique and authentic?
The artworks created are formed by combining different parts from David’s paintings. The subjects, backgrounds, symbols, splats of paint and digital effects are generated at random from a library of these existing elements. No two images are exactly alike and some qualities are more rare than others.
This may mean you will see artworks that look very similar to existing original paintings and others that are creations of The Metaverse and could never exist in the studio.
Why would I want to trade them in to be destroyed?
By the time the collection is complete there will have been 2000 NFTs minted. However if you own two you can choose to trade them for a new unique original, burning them in the process. This could mean that the entire original collection may in time be destroyed.
Some of the artworks will have more common elements than others, some will be very rare indeed. Trading them will create an artwork that chooses their rarer traits and creates a completely new artwork from The Metaverse. Be careful though, this action cannot be undone and you may not get what you were expecting….
The number of Morpheus NFTs created depends on how many of the original collection are traded. They could be very rare or eventually become more common than the originals, although no more than 1000 can ever exist.
Can I combine two NFTs from different phases of the collection?
Yes. Even if the NFT is from a different phase you can still combine it with a different NFT from a later phase. So it may be worth hanging onto those early mints.
